Church History

The word “Bethel” means “House of God”. It has been, and continues to be our purpose to provide a place where people can meet with God through His Word, prayer and Christian fellowship.

Bethel Community Church has served the Washougal and Camas area for over 140 years. It was the first organized church in Camas and Washougal, having been established on May 2, 1880. Originally, it was a Congregational Church and later became an independent Community Church. On the occasion of the State of Washington’s Centennial (1989), the church was designated a “Pioneer Corporation”.

Bethel is a church with a rich history of making disciples through the decades, and it is a church with a great future focused on making disciples in this, and the next generations.

Over the years, Bethel Church has been blessed with many Pastors and members who have served the Lord faithfully. Through their dedication, thousands have discovered God’s plan of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and spiritual wisdom and direction through the teaching of God’s Word.

As we consider our history, our focus is not only upon those who have served so faithfully, but also upon God who has sustained us through the years. To the Father, Son and Holy Spirit be all praise and glory!

If you are a part of the Bethel family, we encourage you to be faithful in worship, service and support in this chapter of your life and the life of the church.

If you are looking for a church home, we invite you to come join us in this chapter of our history. We are building on our rich heritage of Biblical preaching and living as faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
