Our Statement of Faith
-
The Scriptures.
We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are the Plenary (complete in every respect; Absolute) inspired Word of God and without error (literally) in the original manuscripts and authoritative for life and faith. (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21; Matthew 5: 17-18)
-
God.
We believe in one God, holy, infinite, perfect, all knowing, all powerful, ever present and creator and sustainer of all things eternally existing in a unity of three equally divine Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6: 4; Matthew 3:16–17; II Corinthians 13: 14).
-
People.
We believe Adam and Eve were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26–27) and enjoyed an intimate relationship with God with no barriers but sinned when tempted by Satan (Genesis 3). In union with Adam, all people are sinners by nature and choice and separated from God as objects of His wrath (Isaiah 59: 2; Romans 3: 23; 5:12 – 14, 18 – 19; 6: 23). Motivated by love for people God provided through the sacrifice of Christ the way for a person to be declared right with God (justification) and restored to a right relationship with God (reconciliation) through faith (Romans 5: 19; John 3:16 – 17; 14: 6; I Peter 3: 18; Ephesians 2: 8 – 9; I Timothy 2: 5 – 6; I John 5: 11 – 13; II Corinthians 5: 21).
-
Jesus Christ.
We believe Jesus is God incarnate (fully God and fully man), was born of a virgin, sinless, was crucified, died and buried to pay the penalty for our sin. He arose from the dead and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our priest who intercedes on our behalf (John 1:1, 14; 20:31; I Corinthians 15:3-4; Hebrews 4:14-16; 7:25). As our substitute, Christ shed His blood to be the perfect and sufficient sacrifice for our sins and He is the only way to salvation (I Peter 3:18; Acts 4:12; John 14:6). Jesus the Christ will physically return to earth to rule and to reign for 1,000 years (Acts 1:11; Revelation 19:11-16; 20:1-6). Saints (believers) will serve, worship and reign with Christ in the new Jerusalem forever. (Daniel 7:18, 27; Revelation 21:27; 22:1-5)
-
The Holy Spirit.
We believe the Holy Spirit is God. He indwells the follower of Christ, and empowers and equips the believer for service and maturity in Christ. The Holy Spirit is a deposit guaranteeing the believer’s salvation (I Corinthians 6: 19 – 20; Ephesians 1: 13 – 14; I Corinthians 12; Galatians 5: 16 – 18, 22 – 23).
-
Salvation and Eternal Security.
We believe salvation (a right relationship with God) is only offered through the Person and work of Jesus Christ. Salvation is given by grace (a gift) to all who trust in Christ alone by faith (Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 2:16; Acts 4:12; Romans 1:16-17; John 3:16, 36; I John 5:11-12). The follower of Christ is eternally secure and has passed over from eternal death to eternal life (John 5:24; I John 5:13; Ephesians 1:13-14).
-
The Church.
We believe the church is made up of people who have been justified (declared right with God) by God’s grace through faith in Christ alone (Ephesians 2: 8 – 9). The church is united in fellowship by the Holy Spirit under Christ who is the cornerstone (I Peter 2: 4 – 10). The local church is a membership of believers who work to carry out the Great Command (Love your neighbor) and the Great Commission (Make Disciples of all nations) of our Lord (Matthew 22: 37– 40; Matthew 28: 19 – 20; Acts 1: 8). Believers were created anew in Christ to do good works which He has prepared for them to do (Ephesians 2: 10). The Lord gave two ordinances to the church: Baptism (Matthew 28:18-20) and Communion (I Corinthians 11).
-
Eternal Destinies of People.
We believe God will raise the dead bodily and judge all people: the unbeliever to eternal punishment separated from God in hell and the believer to life eternally with God in heaven (Matthew 25: 31 – 46; Revelation 20: 11– 15; 21: 1 – 8).
